Selecting Your Canoe or Boat

Bow The most difficult decision may be which boat or canoe is the right one to suit you and your needs. Some are for a single use, such as solo paddling or rowing. Others are made for dual purposes, such as a sailing canoe or a transom sterned row boat that will take a motor.

Think of where most of the use will be and if you plan to paddle alone or with someone. Keep in mind that one craft will not do it all. For instance, a Nessmuck is a lightweight solo canoe that should be used on small lakes or slow rivers, while a sixteen foot Ugo model will carry two on day trips or one on long trips with camping gear. There are many options that can add to your boat or canoe, such as sailing gear and lee boards for open canoes, oars for sailboats, paddles, seats and hardware.
